How to Take the Perfect Headshot: Six Tips
Wikipedia defines a headshot as: “A head shot is a photographic technique where the focus of the photograph is a person’s face”.

It would seem to be a simple project for a photographer. After all, you are only worrying about a persons face, and just maybe part of their shoulders. Seriously, how hard can it be?
More than you think.
The headshot is a critical piece of many professionals PR packets. A dynamic headshot for models, actors, and other performance professionals will be the difference between acquiring the gig or not. Your clients can be no more excited than if they get a gig based on the power of their headshot – and of course, this means more jobs for you.
Follow these few tips to achieve the perfect headshot.
1. Focus on the eyes.
The eyes are said to be the window of the soul. Therefore, nothing is more important than achieving sharp, crisp eyes in your shot. Capturing the eyes in a powerful way will draw the viewer into the photo, establishing a strong connection that will speak volumes.
2. Watch your angles.
Remember that for close up shots, angles will affect the outcome look and feel. For women, make the eyes appear larger and the face more delicate by shooting down on them. For men, emphasize strength and achievement by shooting slightly up.
3. Use diffused light.
In close up shots, the skin is a central feature. It’s crucial to show the skin without blemishes. Achieve this by using diffused light to gently wrap around the skin, bringing definition along the lines of the face without highlighting blemishes.
4. Add a hair light
Detail is critical in head-shots and are no more dynamic than when created with a hair-light. A hair-light can be placed above or behind the subject [with a flash or the sun] to add depth to the shot, and pull the top of the head out of the background.
5. Use of Lens
Nothing is more disturbing than a near-dynamic headshot that fails simply because of lens distortion. Generally, avoid mid to wide angle lenses for close headshots. Instead, use a lens that will compress your image and slim your subjects face – typically 90mm and above.
6. Guide expression
The final most important element is an expression to match the purpose of the headshot. It’s your job as photographer to pull out the most natural looks from your subjects. Do so by guiding them through complimenting conversation; i.e. asking serious questions to pull out a thoughtful gaze, or cracking a joke to capture a natural smile.

PocketWizard for Nikon being tested, no release date yet
Pocketwizard posted an update on their Nikon version of FlexTT5. The good news is that prototypes are already being tested. The release date is still unknown:
“So the big question is when? It all depends. There will be surprises along the way. As we learned with the Canon system, it is IMPOSSIBLE to peg a date. If things go well, it will be sooner. If there are major surprises, it will be later.”

T-Mobile webConnect Rocket HSPA+ Modem availability and prices detailed

Today morning T-Mobile set out a more detailed launch schedule for their new HSPA+ USB mdoem, the webConnect Rocket. The USB stick is compatible with Mac and PC and is supposed to deliver 21 Mbps data transfer speeds. The T-Mobile webConnect Rocket will be available from March 14th either from their online store or in Philadelphia-area retail shops, where the carrier’s first HSPA+ service is going live. It will cost you $100 to buy the stick along with a two-year data contract.
When it comes to plans, T-Mobile is offering their Even More and Even More Plus plans. Those that get the modem on contract will end up paying more with $60 per month for 5GB and $30 per month for a meagre 200MB of data with the Even More webConnect plan Those who buy the modem outright on the Even More Plus plan, however, will get 5GB for $50 per month and 200Mb for $20 per month. Both the plans also include free access to WiFi at T-Mobile’s public access points.
Widespread deployment of HSPA+ networks are expected by the end of 2010, but phones that support the higher speeds don’t exist as of now.

Risk/Reward
I am at that point in building my business where I am looking for that one big "risk" to take to pay off in that one big "reward" ...
I just want to hear from others, who have established themselves, with what big "risk" they took and also at what point they knew that they were going to be "ok" and be able to make it ...

Verizon 4G phones to be available by mid-2011
Verizon Wireless is one of the carriers going full speed ahead with the initial tests and deployment of their high speed 4G network in the US. According to Verizon CTO Anthony Melone, the carrier’s first 4G handsets should be hitting the stores sometime in middle of 2011. Initially the Long Term Evolution ( LTE ) 4G network will be used by pure-data devices such as USB modems and data cards.

The phones will be coming around a year after the network itself goes live, but will still be six months ahead of the earlier predicted timeline. The phones are expected to have both CDMA and LTE chipsets as coverage will be small at first with the subscribers requiring to have legacy chipsets to access the network outside coverage areas.
Also, another thing highlighted by Melone is that unlimited data plans are probably out of the game and that metered or tired plans are more likely. AT&T is also mostly following VZW’s attitude to data limits and is expected to follow a similar schedule for 4G phone deployment. While AT&T’s own 4G network won’t go live till 2011, they are expected to have their phones ready around the same time as their competitor.

Microsoft Could Roll Out Zune HD2 Media Player by the End of 2010?
Worried that your Microsoft Zune HD player does not play the XNA Game Studio 4.0 titles? I am confused whether you will like it or not but, there is already a Zune HD 2 Player in the works and that might be the hand-held to play all those nifty titles. Yes, your favorite media player ‘might’ soon turn obsolete as there are rumors doing rounds about the arrival of the next generation of Microsoft HD media players.

Since these are all rumors, we are confused about what to trust but, what is worth mentioning is that the Zune HD2 will be closer to the iPod touch at least in terms of size, as per speculations.
The rumor mongers are even sure about the arrival of the Zune HD 2 player before the year ends which implies that it will not just be the Windows Phone 7 laden handsets that will steal the show for Microsoft. [via: Slashgear]
